Further proof…
By Betsy Richter | 11:19 am…that my kids will need holiday-induced major doses of therapy some day.
The Mogul is so bored right now that he’s watching a History Channel documentary. On the New Testament, Jesus, and the birth of Christianity. (I’m finishing up a half-day of working from home, interspersed with the Christmas Eggs breakfast and stocking opening extravaganza.)
Have I mentioned the fact that their nominally-raised Catholic mother (who now has a synagogue membership and everything) is raising both kids as Jews? Therefore, we don’t celebrate Christmas as anything but a secular holiday, and in low doses at that?
Oh, and the kids? They’re off later today for a huge secular Christmas extravaganza this weekend with their Jewish father – complete with tree, presents, huge family gatherings, etc. etc. etc.
Nowhere in any of that is there a planned church visit. In other words, no Jesus stuff. Either he’s being overly inclusive here, or he’s as confused as the rest of you are about just what it is we’re up to.
But maybe our snarky senses of humor will spare us the extended sessions with Sigmund and Company – last night, TM wanted to know when we’d be celebrating “Christmas Cain and Abel.”
Think he was looking for an excuse to off the Drama Mama? That’s a normal desire, right?

Maybe he’s just curious. I read tons of Joseph Campbell when I was a teen. It turned me off Christianity right quick.
And no, Michelle did NOT send me. I already love you.

Yeah, this is a kid who already has devoured his kids’ Jewish bible cover-to-cover, not to mention the Google encyclopedia (which is his default bedtime reading material if he’s not reading a novel.)
I think I have that Joseph Campbell – should think about dragging it out for some more ‘indoctrination’, no? (I think it’d work the same way it did on you, heh…)
