I hereby decree…

By Betsy Richter | 8:18 am

…a new name for today: Christmas Adam.

My kids were getting way too confused when I tried to talk about Christmas Eve Eve, or Christmas Eve Morning (we’re doing a quiet family thing tonight and stockings tomorrow am, since the kids are heading to The Father’s tomorrow for the holiday weekend.)

And I just so happened to be reading a mystery story last night where the heroine used the term – AHA! That’s what we can call it! All of you single parents – feel free to borrow the term and/or load it full of traditions.

Drama Mama’s already got an upgrade planned for the whole ‘hot chocolate in Santa Claus mugs’ tradition (which both kids have enthusiastically swallowed whole): Magic Snowman Soup. Take your hot chocolate … add a (Hershey’s) kiss or two … stir with a magic stick (candy cane) ….top with a dollop of snow (marshmallow) … and enjoy the magic!

Update: How does one celebrate Christmas Adam at our house, anyway? If you’re me, the Magic Snowman Soup is spiked with Peppermint Schnapps as well, the kids enthusiastically beg for something you already have prepped in the freezer (bolognese sauce), the unexpected arrival of Dungeness crab as an appetizer provokes cheers from the crowd (both kids love it), and some judicious quick recording of Simpsons holiday reruns, interspersed with Daily Show episodes not yet watched, round out the evening’s entertainment (yes, both kids are snarks-in-training.)

What could make this evening even more memorable? Yet another great gift choice by The Mogul, who knows how his mother loves her coffee and remembered that the appliance for brewing said stuff has been temperamental of late. Kids who thrive on snark…love seafood..appreciate a great red sauce…and already know the importance of a well-thought out gift (with an assist from The Father, of course)? I am truly blessed…

As Drama Mama would say – “Christmas Adam is the bomb!”

We handled that by not calling tomorrow Christmas Eve, but referring to it by its proper name, “Mommy’s birthday.”

    Voila, no more confusion!

And the magic snowman soup sounds like a great recipe that could only be improved by adding a splash of kaluha.

    Happy birthday!

I think that peppermint schnapps is called for instead (or as well?), don’t you?
