My Whim is Law

…where a single parent in Portland still believes that wishing will make it so…

What next?

So. We’re back from Monterey now – and after all that positive, productive forward momentum in the month of March, I have to confess that I’m at a bit of a loss about what’s next for April.

Sure, I know that I’m going to keep up the 3 times weekly strength workouts, augmented by some long walks when the weather cooperates. Here’s hoping that will start happening more frequently these days as we start getting some vaguely spring-like weather around here – and by that I mean ‘less rain, please?’)

But I’m quite sure you don’t want me crowing about my workout routine now that it’s become more or less, um, regular.

But other than that? I’m stalled. Stumped. Blocked. Plugged up. Yes, I’m a -1 on the Bristol Scale.

Sadly, that’s just not a tortured metaphor, either – as my almost constant downing of flax oil, fish oil, other oily capsules, what seems like gallons of water, yogurt, kombucha, probiotic capsules and/or Smooth Move herbal tea (all with little to no effect thus far, sadly) will attest to. Why? Let’s just say that I left no souvenir of consequence behind in California – nor have I blessed Oregon recently, either – & leave it at that, ok?

So, tell me – what should I take on for my set of goals for the month of April, anyway?

Other than the painfully obvious one that’s currently clamoring for attention Right Now, that is…

Update: #HeTeen thinks my current predicament is a) oh, so amusing and b) entirely due to the fact that I must not be eating enough food. “Don’t you know that’s the best way to move things through, MooooMMMM?”

Somehow, I don’t think I’ll take #HeTeen’s medical recommendations as Yet Another Home Remedy.

Besides, I haven’t quite finished Kombucha #2 for the day…

  1. Should not have been eating when I clicked that link….you would think I know better, being married to a nurse…

There was a great article on Science Based Medicine about this recently: http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/index.php/constipation-myths-and-facts/

    Highly recommended.

  2. Betsy Richter says:

Have tried most of the things referenced in that article. (Except for the All-Bran/dietary fiber recommendations, tho…)

    …all to no avail. Ugh.

  3. In the realm of TMI: the one advantage to lactose intolerance is that my best medicine is ice cream.

  4. Betsy Richter says:

I’ll see your TMI & raise you – dairy is most probably a contributing factor here. Specifically, the heavy cream I have in my coffee each AM.

  5. I just remembered. M had the same problem you are experiencing. He drank a bunch of castor oil, wanted to die, but? Problem solved.

  6. Amy says:

Enormous green salads. Like, a full head of lettuce at a sitting. It can’t hurt, anyway.

Word to the wise, though, fresh greens are mostly water …

  7. Amy – I’ve been craving (and thus mainlining) kale these days, have eaten what feels like a metric crapton of the stuff.

Still want more, more, more tho…!
