…that when we absolutely, positively need to be somewhere at a certain time, virtual speedbumps impede every possible step of the journey?
Consider my prep for a 3 pm meeting. (Yes, on a Sunday. No, we don’t call meetings ‘on account of football’ here in the NW…)
- Who knew that seventy-five zillion people all wanted to be at Kinko’s on a Sunday afternoon at 2 pm? Who expected that 2/3rds of the copiers would be out of order.
- The product I needed at Office Depot? Waaaay over yonder on yon back wall. Except – gee, darn, we’re out of stock. Here, buy this 4X more expensive version instead! But only if you can find a checkout clerk to take your money, that is.
- What’s with the crowd in Office Depot, anyway? It’s Sunday, people. Unless you’re shopping early for Christmas, I guess – but I pity your gift recipients if that’s the case!
- And don’t even get me started on traffic on a Sunday afternoon. Either you’ve got your typical Sunday drivers (extra spooked because it’s Raining! And the roads are now Slippery! Not to mention those leaves, eek!) – or those who left their houses mid-Nascar race bound and determined to emulate Dale Jr.
After all of that, I got to my meeting (DM in tow) at 3:02. The Office Depot purchase? Not needed. The Kinko’s efforts? Should have done it on the home copier.
But the ability to drive like Dale Jr. for a brief shining moment?
Priceless.
I think we’ve reached the holiday season, where venturing out to any sort of retail establishment, especially on the weekend, should be avoided.
Supposedly everybody is doing tons of shopping online. If that’s the case, why are the stores so crowded. Meh. Can’t I just send everyone gift cards via e-mail and be done with it?
