We’ll be having some fun now…

I'm jumping on a plane later today...only to jump on another plane...only to jump on a third plane. Will have two children and mounds of their luggage in tow, along with amusements, sedatives, and food. (An aside - did you know that it's possible to take three different flights over a 12-hour timespan flying cross-country and yet never hit a flight where they'll actually serve you a meal nowadays? Well, it is...) (Another aside - you think I'm joking about the sedatives? Let me tell you about the joys and wonders of Benadryl for children. Because, of course, they'll need it to counteract the notorious flood of histamines they'll encounter on the various flights. [Read more...]

It’s a question of priorities

My desire for a clean house almost certainly assures me of going to hell - at least, according to one of the people profiled in this week's WWeek cover story, Chosen. I like Jon's take on the scenario: Drew, one of the people in the article, has actually been led to believe that the cooking, cleaning and yardwork he had to do when he was a child, coupled with having a single mother, led to his desire to be with a man. What everyone else is saying…

...about Barack Obama. Yes, it was that good. See it for yourself on C-Span (if you can get through) - here's the direct link to the Real Player video. Here, one great excerpt (full transcript available, courtesy of CNN): It is that fundamental belief -- it is that fundamental belief -- I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper -- that makes this country work. It's what allows us to pursue our individual dreams, yet still come together as a single American family. "E pluribus unum." Out of many, one. Now even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters and negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything [Read more...]

Let’s get this show on the road!

Jon Croix, in his brand-new blog Roses and Raindrops, isn't ashamed to say it: Portland should forget baseball and go after NASCAR And I'm not ashamed to agree with him, either (I'd wondered in an earlier post if Portland's hesitancy was mere snobbiness instead.) Go see what he has to say... (Welcome to the blogging world, Jon!)
